Howdy;

If vision is imperfect at one distance it can be imperfect at all. Improving at one distance helps improve all distances.

Smudged is no problem; just shift on the smudges. Shift part to part on the blur. Imagine a clear black letter with eyes open. Close the eyes and imagine it, imagine shifting on it. Open and check for improvement. If you get a clear flash; don't try to hold it. Shift on the blur if it blurs. Shift on the letters if they flash clear. Close the eyes and repeat.
